Role Synopsis

Join bp’s LNG and Gas Trading team as a Market Strategist, contributing to the development of mid‑ and long‑term global gas and LNG market forecasts. The Market Strategist team leads the group’s global gas and LNG outlooks and translates them into clear, actionable guidance for trading, investment, contracting, portfolio strategy, and risk management.

In this role, you will support the Lead Market Strategist in updating long‑term global models, developing forecasts, and delivering deep‑dive analysis across key topics and regions. While the role primarily supports the Origination team and long‑term commercial decision‑makers, it remains fully integrated within the Strategists Team, which also supports trading activities. You will collaborate closely with origination, shipping, structuring, and strategy teams to provide insights that inform critical commercial decisions.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support the creation of global gas and LNG supply‑demand balances and long‑run price views for mid‑ and long‑term horizons.
  • Run and support the global model update process, maintaining assumptions and ensuring quality assurance.
  • Develop specialist forecasts and conduct deep‑dive analysis on key market drivers.
  • Assess pre‑FID liquefaction supply projects, including cost structures and economic analysis.
  • Sense‑check global forecasts, reconcile differences, and highlight commercial implications.
  • Contribute to freight market analytics and analysis of net‑zero developments.
  • Collaboratively enhance modelling infrastructure and apply technology to support bp’s digital ambitions.
  • Present insights at internal forums and work closely with regional and cross‑commodity teams.

Essential Education

  • Degree or equivalent experience in a quantitative, statistical, mathematical, engineering, or similar field.

Essential Experience and Job Requirements

  • Experience in LNG and/or global gas market fundamental analytics.
  • Ability to analyse complex market dynamics and extract commercial insights.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental economic forecasting principles.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently or within an agile team environment.

Desirable Criteria

  • Strong quantitative skills; proficiency in Excel, Dataiku, and Power BI.
  • Experience using global gas balancing models.
  • Familiarity with origination and structuring activities.
  • Ability to communicate key themes clearly and succinctly to diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of econometric modelling.
  • Experience working with large datasets.
  • Understanding of other energy commodities.
  • Additional language skills (ability to read and interpret business documents).
