Machine Tool Field Service Engineer – Electrical Bias Location: Field-based – 2 hour travel rule from the North West/Midlands corridor. Type: Full-time, Permanent Salary: £45,000–£55,000 DOE + door-to-door What’s on Offer : Private medical insurance, Company van, Flexible working hours, Company credit card The Role Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Electrical Field Service Engineer to join our team. You’ll be working on a wide range of high-speed metal cutting machine tools (CNC and conventional), supporting customers with fault finding, servicing, repairs, and installations. This is a hands-on role requiring strong electrical expertise, alongside solid mechanical understanding and the ability to work independently in the field. Key Responsibilities Fault finding, servicing, repair, and installation of CNC machine tools
Working on 3, 4, and 5-axis high-speed machining centres (Lathes, Horizontal and Vertical Millers, VTL’s, Borers, Gantry Machines, Mill-turns and all associated equipment).
Diagnosing issues across electrical, electronic, and control systems
Supporting customers on-site with technical issues and breakdowns
Carrying out machine geometry checks and adjustments
Working with ancillary automated equipment (non-fabrication machinery)
Skills & Experience Required Minimum 10 years’ engineering experience
Fully qualified Electrician
Strong experience with CNC & PLC control systems
Confident working with Siemens, Fanuc, or Heidenhain controls (amongst others)
Ability to navigate HMIs, adjust parameters, and manage data backups
Knowledge of G & M code programming - “Knowledge of machine production programmes for diagnostic purposes (G codes, M codes etc)”
Understanding of machine parameters (e.g. backlash, grid shift, contour monitoring etc)
Experience with: Servo drives and motors (AC/DC, analogue & digital)
Encoders, resolvers, and positional feedback systems
Ladder logic and PLC fault finding
Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics
Mechanical Knowledge (Desirable but Important)
Power transmission systems (gearboxes, spindles)
Hydraulics and pneumatics
Machine alignment and geometry (axis, turret, headstock)
Machining principles (speeds, feeds, tooling, surface finish)
