The Role

Deritend, part of the Rubix Group, provide 24/7 engineering services. We repair, overhaul, install, and maintain pumps, motors, gearboxes, compressors, hydraulic equipment and cover a wide range of industrial equipment for customers across multiple sectors.

The Technician role is a multi-skilled position, responsible for the installation, assembly, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of industrial systems and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse job cards and work instructions to determine scope, status, limitations, and requirements.
  • Inspect, test, assemble, and commission industrial equipment to ensure compliance with customer specifications and internal standards.
  • Carry out fault diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Record in detail work undertaken, parts used, and time spent, ensuring accurate completion of job documentation.
  • Use precision measuring equipment such as Vernier’s, micrometers, and dial test indicators.
  • Operate workshop and site equipment safely, in line with training and company procedures.
  • Liaise with customers, colleagues, and management to provide updates and technical support.
  • Ensure all work is completed to the required quality and delivered on time.
  • Promote and uphold company values, focusing on safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Strip down, repair, identify component wear, reassemble, and test wide range of pumps (centrifugal, submersible, multistage, progressive cavity, turbine, positive displacement etc.) to OEM or customer specifications.
  • Carry out shaft alignment, balancing, and performance testing.
  • Occasional sitework for installation, laser alignment and commissioning may be required.

Key Skills / Qualifications

  • Proven engineering/technical background in industrial maintenance.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical manuals.
  • Experience using hand tools, workshop machinery, and test equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills when dealing with colleagues and customers.
  • Flexible, with the ability to work both in the workshop and on customer sites.

Good to Have Qualifications

  • Recognised apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent).
  • Specialist training/certification where applicable (e.g., lifting, confined space, electrical testing).
  • Valid UK driving licence preferred.

  • Ensure all equipment and tools are maintained in safe working order.
  • Report hazards, near misses, and incidents promptly.
