About the Role

As a Maintenance Engineer, you will carry out inspections, servicing, diagnostics and repairs on a range of plant and support equipment used in Defence settings.

This includes equipment such as:

• Forklifts
• Telehandlers
• Excavators
• Generators
• Lighting towers
• Mechanical plant and associated support equipment

Unlike many standard maintenance roles, this position offers the chance to work in an environment where equipment reliability and availability genuinely matter. Your work will directly support Defence operations, giving the role real purpose alongside long-term job security.

What You Will Be Doing

• Carrying out planned maintenance, servicing and repairs on plant and MHE equipment
• Diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults
• Completing inspections and ensuring equipment is safe, compliant and ready for use
• Performing high-quality repairs and component replacement
• Maintaining accurate service records, job sheets and parts documentation
• Liaising with controllers and site contacts on repair progress and expected timescales
• Working safely in line with MOD and site regulations
• Supporting equipment availability and operational readiness across the contract

Who Were Looking For

We are interested in candidates with experience from plant, HGV, automotive, materials handling, military engineering or similar technical environments.

Youll ideally have:

• A Level 3 qualification in Plant, Mechanical, Automotive or Electrical Maintenance, or equivalent hands-on experience
• Good knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems
• Experience diagnosing faults and carrying out technical repairs
• The ability to work independently and manage your workload effectively
• Strong attention to detail and a safety-first approach
• A reliable, professional and hands-on attitude

Ex-Military Engineers Encouraged to Apply

This role is especially well suited to engineers leaving the Armed Forces or already established in civilian industry after service.

If your background includes vehicle maintenance, plant, mechanical systems, powered equipment, hydraulics, generators, electrical systems or equipment support, your skills are likely to transfer well into this role.
