Our client is seeking a Senior Engineer (Nuclear Submarines) for an initial period until June 2026, based in Bristol, with the flexibility of hybrid workingrequiring three days onsite each week. This role offers a compelling chance to be part of the UKs next-generation submarine programme within the AUKUS alliance, collaborating across Australia, the UK, and the USA.

What youll do

• Provide expert engineering advice to support nuclear submarine acquisition programmes, ensuring alignment with international standards and safety protocols.
• Support Australian participation in the SSNA design programme, including attending reviews and governance meetings, often outside standard hours due to international collaboration.
• Assess and compare UK and Australian processes, helping develop effective technical governance arrangements within the AUKUS framework.
• Assist UK-based Technical Liaison Officers, contributing to successful programme delivery and maintaining clear communication channels with international partners.
• Contribute to trilateral meetings and governance, supporting the integrity of the design and safety standards.

What were looking for

• Experience in nuclear submarine acquisition programmes, with a solid understanding of systems engineering approaches across complex naval projects.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with confidence in communicating with international stakeholders from Australia and the USA.
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer statusor demonstrated equivalent knowledge, skills, and experience.
• Relevant Level 4 (or higher) qualification or comparable experience.
• Proven track record of providing technical advice leading to successful outcomes within highly regulated environments.

Additional Information

This role is part of a tri-lateral project involving the UK, Australia, and the US. The successful candidate should be prepared to attend meetings outside of regular hours, including early mornings or late evenings. You will be based in Bristol, with a hybrid working approachthree days on-site each week.

The initial contract runs until June 2026, with potential for long-term extension, and offers a daily rate between £420 and £570 (inside IR35).
