We are seeking an experienced Safety Engineer with a strong background in land systems or armoured platforms to support a complex defence land programme. This is a short-term contract (23 months) with strong potential for extension, based on-site in Coventry, with occasional travel to programme and stakeholder locations across the UK.

Role Overview

Working as part of a specialist delivery team, you will provide safety engineering oversight across the lifecycle of modified land platforms, ensuring hazards are effectively managed, safety evidence is maintained, and risks are mitigated.

You will collaborate with project teams, contractors, and technical stakeholders, providing expert advice on safety and risk management throughout design, integration, and testing activities.

Key Responsibilities

Project Initiation

• Review project documentation including Safety Strategy, Safety Requirements, Project Plan, and base vehicle configurations
• Produce an Annex to the Safety Management Plan / Engineering Management Plan

Safety Case and Hazard Management

• Review Safety Case Reports, Hazard Logs, and LCA for base and integrated vehicles
• Maintain hazard logs and conduct Hazard Log Working Groups (HLWG)
• Support Safety Case Report updates and produce supporting safety assessments

Programme Delivery Support

• Attend project kick-off meetings and technical reviews
• Represent the safety function at design reviews, trials, and programme meetings
• Review Contractor Safety Assurance Statements
• Provide technical safety advice to programme stakeholders

Configuration and Change Management

• Lead Configuration Change processes and committee meetings
• Assess safety impacts of modifications, change requests, and safety notices

Governance and Reporting

• Prepare and deliver Equipment DLOD Safety Panel submissions
• Support programme safety panels and governance reviews
• Produce and peer review technical safety documentation and risk reports

Essential Experience

• Engineering experience with armoured or land vehicle platforms
• Strong understanding of systems safety and risk management
• Experience supporting safety case development and hazard management

Desirable Experience

• Experience supporting armoured or heavy vehicle platforms
• Exposure to complex vehicle integration or land systems programmes
• Willingness to travel to programme and stakeholder locations when required
