The successful candidate will play an important role in developing compliant system designs, producing technical drawings and documentation, and providing product-related support to internal sales teams and customers across CCTV, fire alarm, access control and related technologies.

This position would suit someone with a strong technical or electrical background who enjoys problem solving, technical design work and working within a supportive team environment.

The key responsibilities of this role as a Design Support Technician:

* Develop system designs from customer specifications and fire strategies.

* Produce design specifications and supporting technical documentation.

* Carry out calculations required to validate system designs.

* Convert system designs into CAD drawings and Relux layouts.

* Support the development of designs in accordance with relevant British Standards and codes of practice.

* Provide technical product support for CCTV, fire alarm systems, access control, disabled refuge systems and related technologies.

* Respond to internal and external customer design enquiries.

* Maintain up-to-date information for team schedules and project progress.

* Assist with completing relevant sections of Operation and Maintenance (O&M) manuals.

* Attend site surveys and customer meetings where required.

* Participate in the design rota to arrange commissioning engineers to attend site.

* Support the wider design team to improve efficiency and productivity.

Qualifications and skills of a Design Support Technician:

* Previous experience designing fire alarm, emergency lighting, CCTV, intruder, access control or emergency voice systems.

* Strong technical or electrical background.

* Knowledge of BS 5839 (Part 1, 6 and 9) and BS 5266 standards. Knowledge of standard commissioning practices to BS 5839-1:2025 is desirable.

* Understanding of BS 7671 wiring regulations and electrical circuitry.

* Ability to produce concept artwork and CAD drawings and roficient in Microsoft Office package and Intermediate knowledge of Adobe software including Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator.

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills.

* Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

* Professional telephone manner and the ability to interact effectively with internal teams and customers.

* FIA training is desirable (training can be provided).

The employment package for a Design Support Technician:

* On-site role in Redditch offering strong teamwork and support

* Monday – Friday

* £32,000 - £35,000 per annum

* 25 days holidays
