Description

The Role:

We are looking for experienced Technical Architects to work on our projects with our public sector clients, helping to deliver Solirius’ services to the highest standard.

The role will involve working closely with engineering leads and delivery teams, helping them to design and implement robust, high-performance technical systems that underpin client services.

As a Technical Architect, you will be expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy, using your deep technical expertise and judgment to resolve complex engineering and infrastructure challenges. You will proactively manage technical risks, ensuring the delivery of effective, scalable, and secure systems that adhere to modern engineering principles.

Successful candidates will also be expected to take an active role in practice development: contributing to Solirius’ internal engineering standards, creating and updating technical blueprints, liaising with other Solirius practices to maintain practice profile, and mentoring more junior technical members.

In addition to technical leadership, you will play a key role in ensuring the feasibility of new business opportunities, working closely with stakeholders to provide technical validation and ensure that proposed outcomes are achievable and sustainable.

You must be a strong and confident communicator, capable of bridging the gap between high-level design and low-level implementation. You will lead technical teams by example, build consensus on technology choices, and foster a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement.

Your role will require innovative thinking, applying cutting-edge frameworks and emerging technologies to solve intricate technical problems in creative and pragmatic ways.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design detailed technical architectures that specify system components, frameworks, and engineering standards.
  • Translate architectural blueprints into actionable technical roadmaps for development and platform teams.
  • Establish and enforce technical governance, ensuring code quality, maintainability, and adherence to best practices.
  • Lead deep-dive technical workshops, code reviews, and proof-of-concept (PoC) developments.
  • Support Agile delivery teams by resolving blockers, defining technical spikes, and providing hands-on coding or configuration guidance where necessary.
  • Collaborate with Developers and DevOps Engineers to ensure seamless CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure stability.
  • Define low-level integration patterns, focusing on protocol efficiency, error handling, and latency.
  • Drive the adoption of automation, infrastructure-as-code (IaC), and modern observability practices.
  • Ensure the technical integrity of the system, managing technical debt and performing security vulnerability assessments.
  • Produce detailed technical documentation, including Low-Level Designs (LLD), sequence diagrams, and interface specifications.

Key Experience:

  • Extensive experience in technical leadership and senior-level communication with engineering and product heads.
  • Proven experience in lead developer or technical lead roles within consultancy environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate high-level designs into resilient, performant, and maintainable software or infrastructure systems.
  • Strong track record in the hands-on delivery of complex, distributed systems and cloud-native applications.
  • Expertise in physical architecture modelling, including network topology, database schema design, and resource provisioning.
  • Deep understanding of concurrency, memory management, and performance tuning in large-scale systems.
  • Ability to ensure non-functional requirements (security, reliability, maintainability) are met at the code and infrastructure level.
  • Broad experience with modern software development life cycles (SDLC), container orchestration, and serverless computing.

Key Skills:

  • Advanced proficiency in cloud-native services and infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Expert-level hands-on experience with multiple programming languages (eg, Java, Go, Python, .NET, or Node.js).
  • Deep knowledge of Containerization and Orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift).
  • Advanced API implementation (GraphQL, gRPC, or REST) and Service Mesh technologies (eg, Istio, Linkerd).
  • Mastery of CI/CD tooling (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions) and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Pulumi, or Bicep).
  • Expertise in Database Design (SQL and NoSQL) and caching strategies (Redis, Memcached).
  • Familiarity with Test-Driven Development (TDD) and automated testing frameworks at all levels of the pyramid.

Working Arrangements

  • 1 day a week on-site in London
