Contract Senior Interaction Designer

Contract | 12 Months | Hybrid Working (Leeds OR Manchester)

Must have Public Sector experience

£700 per day inside IR35

We are seeking an experienced Senior Interaction Designer to join a large-scale digital transformation programme. This role is ideal for someone passionate about user-centred design, accessibility, and delivering impactful digital services.

The Role

As a Senior Interaction Designer, you will:

• Champion best practice in user-centred design across digital and non-digital interactions
• Work effectively within multidisciplinary agile teams, adapting quickly to change
• Embed accessibility and inclusion into all design decisions, considering emerging technologies
• Collaborate with design teams to develop and evolve design patterns and standards
• Use research insights and analytics to identify user needs and opportunities
• Create prototypes using appropriate tools and methodologies, advising others on best practice
• Lead and coordinate design work, mentoring and supporting other designers
• Contribute actively to the wider design community

Key Responsibilities User Focus

• Partner with User Researchers to plan and deliver research activities
• Ensure design decisions are grounded in real user needs

Evidence-Based Design

• Lead the design of solutions rooted in research and data
• Identify knowledge gaps and help shape future research

Prototyping

• Use a range of prototyping tools and approaches
• Provide guidance and support to others on prototyping best practice

Communication

• Present work clearly and confidently to stakeholders
• Facilitate discussions and actively incorporate feedback

Accessibility

• Promote inclusive design principles
• Design in line with WCAG 2.1 AA standards
• Advocate for accessibility throughout the product life cycle

Collaboration

• Work openly and transparently within agile teams
• Improve ways of working to enhance cross-team collaboration
• Demonstrate strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills

Essential Requirements

• Proven experience as a Senior Interaction Designer within complex digital environments
• Experience working in agile, multidisciplinary teams
• Strong portfolio demonstrating leadership, design thinking, and measurable outcomes
• Demonstrable experience delivering accessible, inclusive digital services
• Experience contributing to or working with established design systems
• Ability to showcase 2-3 project case studies at interview
