Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Salary: £45,000- £50,000
Hours: 8:00am 4:30pm | On-site role
Bolt Technical are hiring for an established and fast-growing designer and manufacturer of electronic components.
Due to continued expansion and increased project demand, the company is seeking a Senior Mechanical DesignEngineer to join their highly skilled engineering team. This is a varied, hands-on role with full lifecycle ownership, multiple concurrent projects, and the opportunity to work on innovative products used globally in mission-critical environments.
This position is ideal for an organised, experienced Mechanical Design Engineer who thrives in a structured environment, enjoys technical challenges, and wants to contribute to cutting-edge engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, and testing of electro-mechanical products
- Take ownership of multiple concurrent mechanical design projects with tight deadlines
- Produce 3D designs in SolidWorks and detailed drawings to BS 8888
- Prepare product specifications, test reports, and technical documentation
- Conduct fault analysis and lead technical investigations
- Support and mentor junior engineers within the team
- Execute engineering changes related to cost reduction, obsolescence, and improvements
- Work closely with production engineering teams on build issues and process enhancements
- Assist with verification activities, including environmental testing
- Perform design checks and design reviews to ensure engineering quality
- Collaborate cross-functionally with electronics hardware, software, and manufacturing teams
What Theyre Looking For:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- Background in a product-led manufacturing industry, ideally involving HMI, control interfaces, or electromechanical products designed for volume production
- Minimum of 5 years experience in a mechanical design engineering role
- Proficient user of SolidWorks
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including injection moulding and CNC machining
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines
- Comfortable working within a structured environment with defined processes and procedures
- Experience interfacing with customers and suppliers
- Excellent organisational, documentation, and communication skills
- Able to work independently, taking full ownership of projects from concept to delivery
Desirable:
- SolidWorks PDM
- MRP experience
- Project leadership or project management ability
- Knowledge of IEC/MIL/DO-160 standards
- Experience with environmental testing for marine or aerospace products
