Design Project Manager
Location: London, Euston [NW1]
Rate: £550 - £600 / Day PAYE
Duration: Contract | 9-12 Months
Role Overview
Lead or support the pre-construction phase of civil engineering schemes, delivering construction-ready plans, managing design development, identifying risks, and ensuring projects progress with robust technical solutions and low delivery risk.
Key ResponsibilitiesGeneral
- Lead and control the pre-construction phase with Barhale and client teams.
- Manage multi-disciplinary consultants and design packages.
- Chair weekly progress meetings and maintain reports/dashboards.
- Identify/manage risk, opportunity, commercial change and technical change.
- Manage budgets and programmes for the pre-construction stage.
- Co-ordinate surveys, site investigations, consents and early procurement.
- Manage inputs from internal teams (HSEQ, Ops, Customer etc.).
- Ensure compliance with governance and assurance processes.
Design Management
- Take ownership of engineering solutions.
- Produce design plans/briefs and lead design reviews.
- Ensure designs meet client, statutory and industry requirements.
- Drive safety, buildability and efficiency through design.
- Manage TQs, temporary works interfaces, and support delivery teams.
Tendering & Proposals
- Support bid teams with risks, assumptions and design strategy.
- Review client briefs/contracts and provide key commercial/technical input.
Commercial & Supply Chain
- Produce forecasts, monitor costs and report to Contracts Manager.
- Support supplier selection and manage subcontractor deliverables.
HSE & Quality
- Oversee HSE responsibilities under CDM 2015 in pre-construction.
- Ensure high-quality surveys, investigations and deliverables.
About You
Essential
- Previous design/commercial/project management experience
- Degree/HNC in Civil Engineering
- Strong knowledge of CDM, design management, risk, programme and cost control
- Ability to use Primavera P6 (or similar)
- Strong communication and team-management skills
- Analytical, problem-solving mindset with ability to challenge designs

- Professional chartership
- Experience on Water Infrastructure Projects
