Location: Greater London, UK – Hybrid (2 days/week onsite) Salary Band: £70,000 - £75,000 About the Role: We are seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer to lead technical direction and deliver cutting-edge solutions in robotics and life sciences automation. This role combines hands-on development with architectural leadership, enabling seamless integration between robotic platforms and scientific instruments. What We’re Looking For: * 10+ years in high-performance or high-throughput software development * 4+ years integrating hardware, robotics, or Windows-based instruments * Expertise in Windows software integrations and .NET * Strong experience with Python; familiarity with Go, Rust, C/C++ is a plus * Deep knowledge of real-time systems, streaming, concurrency, and distributed systems Key Responsibilities: * Architect and implement high-throughput, real-time integrations between robotics platforms and diverse life-science instruments * Design SDKs, abstractions, and tooling for scalable, repeatable integrations * Lead technical direction through architecture, patterns, and reviews * Drive a culture of quality, experimentation, and autonomy Nice to Have: * Experience exposing hardware interfaces via APIs or cloud * Proficiency with IaC and CI/CD for automation-heavy deployments * Comfortable in fast-paced, scale-up environments * Continuous learner leveraging modern tools and automation
