In this highly technical, hands-on role, you’ll work on innovative projects that are shaping the future of sustainable propulsion systems. As part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will contribute to the design and integration of high-performance mechanical solutions for advanced products and technology platforms.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Propulsion, the Mechanical Design Engineer will support the full lifecycle of advanced propulsion systems-from concept development and modelling through to testing, validation, and production. You’ll work on sophisticated electro-mechanical assemblies incorporating energy storage, power distribution, and alternative fuel technologies.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and engineer precision mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD (CATIA or similar).
- Contribute to system-level design and integration for propulsion and energy platforms.
- Select materials, surface treatments, and tolerances appropriate for harsh marine or industrial environments.
- Produce detailed engineering drawings, BOMs, and documentation for manufacture.
- Apply first-principles mechanical engineering to validate and refine design concepts.
- Optimise designs for weight, performance, durability, and manufacturability.
- Participate in design reviews, testing, and validation activities to meet quality and certification requirements.
- Work closely with electrical, testing, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless system integration.
- Support continuous improvement by introducing new tools, technologies, and design methods.
About You
Essential:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, Automotive, or related discipline (2:1 or above), or HND with significant industry experience.
- At least 3 years’ experience in motorsport, aerospace, or advanced precision manufacturing.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD (CATIA V5/V6 preferred).
- Experience with prototype development, testing, or validation activities.
- Ability to take ideas from concept through to production-ready design.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and organisational skills.
- Able to perform in a fast-moving, technically challenging environment.
Desirable:
- Experience with EDUs, engines, or complex mechanical systems.
