PCB Design Engineer (Flex/Rigid-Flex)

A long-established engineering business in Mansfield, supplying electronics solutions into aerospace, space and defence applications, is seeking an experienced PCB Design Engineer to join their growing UK engineering team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced PCB specialist to work on advanced multi-layer board layouts for mission-critical systems, supporting a wide variety of high-reliability applications.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for the design, development and documentation of complex printed circuit boards (Flex and Rigid-Flex). Working alongside electrical engineers and internal manufacturing teams, you will ensure designs meet industry standards, regulatory expectations and performance requirements across multiple signal types and environments.
Key Responsibilities
PCB Layout & Design
- Design and develop PCB layouts (Flex/Rigid-Flex) to established standards
- Produce multi-layer PCB designs for Analog, Power, Digital, High-Speed, Impedance-Controlled and RF applications
- Complete full layout activities including schematic review, part library creation, placement, routing and Gerber generation
- Use Altium Designer for all PCB layout work
Documentation & CAD
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, drawings, test procedures and design specifications
- Prepare fabrication and assembly documentation using CAD tools (SolidWorks)
- Support internal engineering and manufacturing teams with design queries
Problem Solving & Collaboration
- Identify and resolve issues throughout the PCB design cycle
- Work closely with electrical engineers to refine and define PCB requirements
- Provide input relating to manufacturability, stack-up, materials, DFM/DFX and design constraints
Ideal Experience & Background
- Proven experience as a PCB Design Engineer
- Strong background in Flex/Rigid-Flex layout design
- High proficiency with Altium Designer
- Knowledge of high-density PCB design, impedance control, high-speed signals and RF layouts
- Understanding of PCB layer stack-up, EMI/EMC, thermal integrity, signal integrity and power plane design
- Familiarity with Polar Instruments, SolidWorks
- Strong understanding of electronic components, circuitry and IPC standards
- Experience with PCB fabrication processes, materials, stack-ups and assembly/testing (DFM/DFX)
- Ability to interpret and produce technical drawings and schematics
- Experience integrating mechanical and electrical design in 3D environments
