Systems Engineer Design - Image Processing and Control

Role: Systems Engineer
Location: Bristol
Salary: Circa £55,000 (DOE)
Working Pattern: Hybrid, 3 days per week on-site
Security Clearance: British Citizen or Dual UK national with British citizenship required

The Opportunity:
Join the innovative DragonFire programme as a Systems Engineer focusing on the Image Processing and Control subsystem for the UK’s first Laser Directed Energy Weapon (LDEW). Be part of a pioneering air defence system development with significant industry and customer engagement.

What You Will Do as a Systems Engineer:

• Develop detailed system design requirements, particularly for embedded software and firmware
• Manage system requirements, verification, and compliance evolution against rapid baseline releases
• Support requirement flow-down to design and implementation teams
• Lead risk quantification and mitigation activities through trade studies
• Facilitate communication of complex technical issues and system architectures across all levels
• Build strong relationships with key stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams

What We Look For:

• Experience with electronic engineering requirements and embedded software/firmware design
• Ability to manage complex system baselines and quickly evolving requirements
• Strong communication and mediation skills tailored to different audiences
• Passion for laser or optical physics knowledge is a plus
• Proven ability to meet deadlines and deliver results in a fast-paced environment
