Job Title: Dual Fuel Engineer
Locations: York and surrounding areas

At Orion Smart Metering, were proud to work with some of the UKs biggest energy suppliers including two of the Big Five as well as the UKs #1 metering provider. Were now expanding our team and are looking for experienced Dual Fuel Engineers to install meters in domestic properties as part of our growing national contracts.


The Role

As a Dual Fuel Engineer with Orion, youll enjoy a stable, full-time PAYE position with excellent pay, bonuses, and benefits.

You will:

  • Install smart meters safely and efficiently in domestic properties.
  • Deliver a professional, customer-focused service on every visit.
  • Ensure all work meets industry safety and compliance standards.
  • Represent Orion proudly as part of a nationwide engineering team.

Pay & Package Options

Choose the option that best fits your circumstances:

  1. Salary Package
  • £43,000 rising to £45,000 per annum after successful completion of 3 month probation.
  • 33 days holiday (including bank holidays)
  • Company van, fuel card, tools & uniform provided

  • £200 per day
  • Paid via Umbrella PAYE
  • Company van, fuel card, tools & uniform provided

Working Hours

  • Monday to Friday, 8am5pm (1-hour lunch)
  • Minimum of 4 jobs per day / 20 per week
  • Optional weekend work available once weekly targets are met

Bonus Breakdown

KPI Bonus £150 per month

  • Achieved by hitting 75% completion of your jobs in a calendar month.

Attendance Bonus £150 per month

  • Awarded for full attendance and no sick days in a calendar month. Pro-rated for holiday taken

Call Out

Call out 1 week in 4. Standby payments Monday - Sunday. Price per job: £150 per dual, £80 per single, £50 per transactional job.

Saturday work available. Paid day rate


Requirements

  • Diploma or qualification in Smart Meter Engineering
  • MOCOPA certification (completed on induction if not already held)
  • CMA1 certificate or CCN1 & MET1
  • Valid driving licence
  • Clean DBS check (recent CRB certificate within 3 months preferred)
  • EUSR card (advantageous but not essential)

Documents required:
Driving licence, passport, gas certificates, MOCOPA, qualification/diploma, NI number, references, and DBS.

You’ll lead electrical design activities end-to-end, support bid activity, mentor engineers, and ensure products meet stringent safety, reliability and compliance standards.

What the role entails:

  • Technical ownership of power converter and power management designs from concept through to qualification
  • Leading electrical design activities including schematics, PCB layout, modelling and simulations
  • Supporting bid and proposal activity, including technical input, cost estimates and compliance responses
  • Defining and supporting test plans, qualification and design assurance, including failure investigations
  • Mentoring engineers and working closely with engineering leadership on new technologies and improvements

  • Expertise in DC/DC, AC/DC, inverters or motor drives within aerospace, defence or automotive environments
