iO are currently partnered with an established safety-critical business who have a magnitude of worldwide offices. Currently, they are on the lookout for a Principal Embedded Software Engineer to join on a permanent basis with the reporting office being based in Bristol.

Focusing on safety-critical projects within all industries, you will lead the current team in continuing to develop real-time operating systems whilst simultaneously providing excellent service to our development clients. You will also be given the ability to see multiple full product life cycles, right from concept to completion.

What we need from you:

  • Proven experience developing software for Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) such as FreeRTOS, OPENRTOS, SAFERTOS, or Linux.
  • Strong programming skills in C and assembler
  • Solid understanding of embedded systems design and integration.
  • Familiarity with ARM, MIPS, and Power processor architectures.
  • Experience working at the processor level (e.g., Cortex-M3, Cortex-M4, Cortex-A7).
  • Knowledge of safety-critical software development and related standards, eg IEC61508
  • Proven ability to lead a team of engineers
  • Eligible for UK Security Clearance

On behalf of our client, we are seeking to recruit a Control Systems Engineer to join on an initial 12-month contract within the Structures Test Team. In this role, you will support both serial programmes and cutting-edge research & development activities, working on critical structural tests across multiple levels of the test pyramid from material coupons through to large structural assemblies. You will apply proven engineering principles to develop and operate advanced servo-hydraulic control systems, contribute to the design and setup of control and data acquisition systems, and play a key role in delivering innovative test rigs, methods, and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Delivery of one or more technical specialisms - often a healthy mix of hands-on lab and office based work.
  • Assistance when required to deliver structural tests.
  • Support for innovation, sustainability and improvement projects.

  • Coordination of all internal and external contributors/stakeholders/suppliers.

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in mechanical engineering or a related discipline (e.g. Aerospace, Structures, Materials, Systems, Physics).
  • +5 years of experience in Project management & delivery of projects to time, cost, quality.
  • +5 years of experience in one of the following disciplines; aeronautical structures, control systems, structural testing.
  • Experience in structures, materials or systems testing would be an advantage.
  • Experience in managing suppliers or participating in supplier selection would be an advantage.
  • Good communication skills, multifunctional work and customer focused.
  • Team worker.
  • Proven ability to deliver.
  • Use of G Suite.
  • Experience or interest in Digital topics / Hybrid Testing & Simulation
