Responsibilities:

  • Lead the delivery of major energy/utilities programmes aligned with strategic business objectives This includes defining the overall programme approach, key milestones, and major deliverables to ensure successful outcomes across complex projects.

Develop and maintain realistic project plans, monitor progress against agreed quality and performance criteria, and ensure appropriate allocation of resources. Establish and oversee project controls related to budget, schedule, quality, risk, and activity tracking, including the setup of necessary structures and processes.
Manage one direct report dedicated to the delivery of the project/programme. Provide leadership and guidance to ensure successful delivery while fostering knowledge sharing and development within the wider team.
Ensure a clear understanding of project goals and objectives, maintaining alignment with broader business strategy. Inspire and motivate team members to achieve high performance.
Oversee the lead consultant to ensure timely and quality delivery of agreed outputs.
Identify and manage stakeholders effectively, ensuring regular, transparent, and timely communication at all levels. Foster collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Analyse complex issues, exercise sound judgment, and drive decision-making to support the successful delivery of large-scale infrastructure projects.
Proactively manage risks and issues, escalating where appropriate to ensure timely resolution.
Prepare and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including programmes, reports, risk and issue registers, daily logs, and other key records.
Manage change control procedures and programme governance. Ensure effective operation of project boards and adherence to governance frameworks.
Adhere to all relevant policies, guidelines, and standards related to project management.
SOX control responsibilities may be part of this role, which are to be adhered to where applicable.

Qualifications

You will have 10+ years relevant experience preferably with a construction / energy / engineering background.
Hold a relevant third level qualification preferably in Engineering or related Project management discipline.
Experience in managing large or multiple infrastructure/capital projects and teams.
Strong knowledge and experience of project management, contract management (i.e. through use of major contract forms e.g. NEC3, FIDIC or similar), strategic planning, methodologies and construction delivery best practice.
Proven ability to successfully implement and execute programmes and driving performance. Knowledge and experience of mobilising and managing the supply chain, including design, planning and construction services.
Experience is in a complex stakeholder environment.
Chartered/qualified with APM, ICE, RICS etc.

Heres what youll do:

  • Deliver: Lead and support the design of SuDS interventions/solutions for residential, commercial and infrastructure projects. Be involved in all design stages, such as feasibility studies (including financial and non-financial comparisons), outline designs, detailed designs, and preparing reports, technical specifications and drainage impact assessments.

Expertise: Undertake hydraulic modelling, runoff calculations and attenuation/storage design to meet current standards and provide technical expertise for interdisciplinary analytical studies. Contribute to the preparation of contract documents for construction phase of SuDS interventions/solutions.
Lead: Liaise with clients, local authorities, planning officers and regulators to secure approvals for SuDS schemes. Support site teams with the implementation of designed solutions and provide technical input during construction.
Quality: Promote innovation and sustainable practices within drainage, wastewater and water infrastructure. Contribute to design reviews, ensuring compliance with CIRIA SuDS Manual and local guidance and legislation.

Your new role

  • Provide strategic leadership across finance, income generation, IT, administration and facilities, ensuring all functions support organisational goals.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, business continuity and senior decision making, providing clear reports and updates to the CEO and Board.
  • Lead financial planning, budgeting, reporting, audit processes and long term financial sustainability, maintaining strong financial controls.
  • Oversee income generation activities, ensuring compliance, ethical practice and supporting diversification of funding streams.
  • Lead on digital development by ensuring IT systems, data protection and information governance are secure, efficient and future ready.
  • Manage administration and facilities, including procurement, health & safety and sustainability initiatives.
  • Represent the organisation externally, building strong relationships and partnerships.
  • Support organisational resilience through participation in senior on call duties and oversight of key corporate functions.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Significant senior level leadership experience within the charity, public, or not for profit sectors.
  • Strong financial leadership background with experience in strategic budgeting, controls, and compliance.
  • Experience driving income generation, service development, or commercial growth in a mission focused environment.
  • Proven ability to build relationships, influence stakeholders and manage risk.
  • Demonstrated experience developing teams, driving change, and delivering organisational improvements.
  • Recognised professional finance qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and organisational performance frameworks.
  • Desirable:
    • Knowledge of issues affecting older people or the wider charity sector.
    • Experience managing mufti disciplinary teams across finance, IT, income, and corporate services.
