The Role
As a Fire Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for the testing, commissioning, and maintenance of fire alarm, suppression, and detection systems. You will work on-site with clients to ensure systems are fully compliant, operational, and safe, supporting both new installations and existing systems.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out commissioning, testing, and fault-finding on fire alarm and detection systems.
Inspect and maintain fire suppression systems in line with manufacturer and regulatory standards.
Ensure full compliance with BS 5839, BS 5306, and other relevant fire safety standards.
Produce detailed commissioning reports and documentation for clients.

The Role:

You will be responsible for engineering at the plant so it runs efficiently sustaining high performance. You will work as part of a team of Maintenance Engineers to ensure that the Production Lines are maintained and fully operational in order to achieve maximum efficiency levels and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) targets. The role will work closely with the Production team to ensure that CI projects, planned maintenance activities, Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and waste targets are achieved and delivered.

You will be a competent Production Line Engineer with the ability to resolve breakdowns safely and efficiently so that production volumes are maximised and the working environment remains safe and hazard free.

Responsibilities:

• Carry out mechanical and electrical fault finding, repairs, and breakdown response, identifying root causes to improve reliability and efficiency.
• Deliver proactive planned maintenance to ensure plant operates safely, efficiently, and within quality standards.
• Support plant upgrades, continuous improvement initiatives, and new equipment installations.
• Work closely with Team Leaders and Management to meet schedules and production requirements, assisting with plant operations when required.
• Adhere to Health & Safety best practices, SSWs, PTWs, relevant legislation, and company policies including accident and near-miss reporting.

Experience:

• Formal recognised engineering qualification/trained i.e. apprentice trained/NVQ Level 3 in Engineering
• At least 3 years experience as a Maintenance Engineer
• Electrical and Mechanical knowledge

My client designs and builds clever and unique PLC HMI and Robotic systems, and every year brings a different set of applications, customers, machinery to design and problems to solve. And getting involved in each project gives you that variety, different work, different systems, different UK sites.

You’re an experienced PLC programmer (any PLC would be OK, but the usual Siemens, Allen Bradley, Omron, Schneider, Mitsubishi PLC software would be ideal). You’ll design the PLC software for each project from scratch, AND THEN follow the project right through to commissioning the machinery and automated systems on the customers site (UK only) and finishing with a working machine performing on site. Seeing what began on paper actually working is a great feeling!

You’re probably based in Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, but some engineers travel in from Hinckley, Coventry, and down the M1 from Nottingham.
