About the role:
As an Advisor on the Energy Transition and Systems Analysis team, you will play a lead role helping us to model and analyse the global energy system, producing our flagship Energy Outlook alongside other analysis helping us to understand the economic and technological forces shaping the energy transition. You will also be responsible for supplying to the EEI’s wider accountabilities to lead analysis into the future of the global energy system and generate insights to inform and guide bp’s strategy and decision making.
What you will deliver:
Playing a core role in the production of our flagship Energy Outlook, liaising with the other teams in Economic and Energy Insights to produce scenarios for the global energy transition out to 2050;
Leading the development of our global energy model, including maintaining and refreshing the dataset for global energy system that is a key input to the model;Using the model, and other tools and analytical approaches, to analyse global energy system, for example producing sensitivity analyses or alternative scenarios to shed light on possible paths for the energy system
Presenting the key messages of the Outlook and our other work to colleagues within bp and to external collaborators.
Collaborating with other business functions to ensure modelling reflects latest business and technical insights as well as wider policy developments
What you will need to be successful:
5+ years experience in energy system modelling or analysis
Strong background in quantitative skills (statistics/regression modelling, mathematics, advanced computing, machine learning) and has preferably applied those skills to energy system modelling or analysis.
Desired: Knowledge of economic principles applied to energy systems analysis
Some coding / modelling experience – for example in R, Python, EViews, plus proficiency in Excel, Powerpoint etc
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with track record of successfully communicating complex ideas and issues to internal and external audiences.
Excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability and passion to interact positively and proactively with our key collaborators
