About the role

Demonstrate the highest levels of collaborative working and collective responsibility by being an active member of the Regional Leadership Team and its planning function, providing cover for other leadership roles as required.

The role

We are looking for a Principal Civil/Structural Engineer ?to support delivery of civil/structural subway systems as part of the subways Team in Devonport.

Lead on the Structural / Civil works required for:

  • Refurbishment design proposals for the existing extant subways within the 10D site.

  • Development of new / alternative designs.

Lead the design team with assessing the findings of recent condition surveys, within the extant subways, and develop a strategy / design for the remediation of these subways. This will need to be coordinated with existing utilities and proposed to ensure that all design requirements are met

Day-to-day, you’ll be supporting the engineering capability of the new systems through the design lifecycle in accordance with the design process.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and manage one or more technical design packages ensuring requirements are met through the design process
  • Provide technical design guidance and review of sub-contract design to ensure compliance with specifications, technical regulations and standards
  • Collaboration across engineering functions and stakeholders to integrate designs within the overall facility layout and manage interfaces
  • Maintaining the engineering configuration of the design intent (change control)

Essential experience:

  • Design of high complex services subways/routes preferably in a Nuclear/ Regulated environment

  • Regulations, legislation and standards that are applicable to civil/structural design and construction (including Principal Designer responsibilities under CDM)

  • Substantiation of SFR’s when identified within systems to support the nuclear safety case

  • Able to demonstrate relevant knowledge and skills required in the technical management of complex design development throughout the design lifecycle.

  • Provide expert advice to the sub-contracted design houses to enable them to develop the design.

  • Sound understanding of engineering design and safety practice as relevant to discipline, post and project requirements.

  • Experience of working in BIM environments.

  • Awareness of project planning, project management and budgeting.

In this role, you will be working in a live MOD facility. Your day-to-day will include:

To carry out Fire, Security, CCTV Planned Maintenance (PPMs), Reactive works with additional capability to assist with M&E repairs and support with minor Fire, Security and CCTV projects to a high level standard in accordance with the SFG20 or manufacturers recommendations.

Key Responsibilities

  • PPM in adherence to set NSI & BAFE standards. All in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act requirement and to company safety procedures and contract specification.
  • Respond to Reactive Works to include all Mechanical & Electrical and minor fabric issues.
  • Adhere to the out of hours call out rota (as required).
  • Correct and timely completion of paperwork according to company policy and procedure.
  • Provide engineering condition reports and quotations.
  • Logbook auditing.
  • Good customer interface skills.
  • Demonstrate competence in all areas of your primary trade (with valid certification)
  • Delivery of service excellence
  • Reasonable understanding and a proactive approach to the following other trade

Hold Fire Alarm, CCTV and Security certification for maintenance and testing requirements

Qualifications

Minimum of trade qualifications in Fire and Security Systems & Electrical competencies.
