About the RoleWe are seeking a technically strong and commercially astute finance professional to join our clients finance team as an Interim Financial Controller. This position is well-suited to someone currently working in accountancy practice who is ready to transition into industry and take ownership of financial operations within a fast-paced engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare statutory accounts, management accounts, and journal entries for review

• Maintain general ledger accuracy and complete monthly reconciliations
• Oversee shared service accounting functions and ensure precise financial reporting
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and wider financial planning activities
• Process financial data using internal systems and provide analysis of outputs
• Play an active role in financial data processing and ongoing financial management
• Collaborate closely with colleagues to ensure the timely completion of all finance tasks
• Ensure compliance with relevant engineering-sector financial regulations and reporting standards
• Lead improvements in financial systems, processes, and internal controls

Industry-Specific Challenges- Navigating complex engineering compliance requirements and project based cost accounting

• Managing asset intensive balance sheets, including machinery, equipment, and capital projects
• Handling variable operational cycles driven by project timelines and client demand
• Ensuring accurate revenue recognition and contract accounting for engineered products and services

Qualifications & Experience- QBE (Qualified by Experience)

• AAT Level 3 or higher advantageous but not essential
• ACCA or CIMA part qualified/qualified preferred but not required
• Strong technical accounting knowledge
• Experience working within a busy, multi-entity environment is beneficial
• Confident user of financial systems and Excel
• Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical capabilities
• Effective communicator with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting
• Ability to manage workflow efficiently and handle supplier or customer financial queries

Desirable- Experience in engineering or other asset intensive industries

• Familiarity with UK GAAP and IFRS
• Exposure to ERP systems

• Strong software engineering skills with experience in Scala, ideally the typelevel stack (bonus if you have exposure to Golang and Python).
• Interest in machine learning, personalisation systems and cloud technology - even if you haven’t worked extensively in ML before.
• Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, deploying, and maintaining production-grade APIs and backend services, including responsibility for reliability, performance, and on-call support.

What you’ll bring

• Strong software engineering skills with experience in Scala, ideally the typelevel stack (bonus if you have exposure to Golang and Python).
• Interest in machine learning, personalisation systems and cloud technology - even if you haven’t worked extensively in ML before.
