• PostgreSQL Architecture & Performance - Design, optimise, and maintain high-performance, reliable, and supportable PostgreSQL databases.
• Advanced SQL - Develop and refine complex, performant SQL and database objects.
• Backend Engineering - Build and enhance backend services (primarily Python), ensuring strong coding, testing, and documentation practices.
• AWS Delivery - Create and evolve solutions using RDS Aurora, Lambda, API Gateway, SNS/SQS, DynamoDB, and other serverless components.

Key Experience

• 5+ years’ hands-on development delivering production systems.
• Deep PostgreSQL design, optimisation, and performance tuning expertise.
• Strong AWS experience, including RDS Aurora and serverless architectures.
• Proficiency in at least one backend language (preferably Python).
• Experience with Git, automated deployments, and IaC (CloudFormation).
• Collaboration across distributed/offshore teams.
• Working knowledge of frontend technologies (React is a plus).

We are looking for an experienced Automation / Low-Code Engineer to design, develop, and maintain internal applications that streamline business processes and support teams across the organization. You will work independently within an agile environment, turning stakeholder requirements into high-quality, reliable solutions that deliver tangible value.

* Build and maintain applications using low-code platforms (e.g., Retool), including reusable components and efficient workflows.

* Translate business requirements into technical specifications and user-friendly interfaces.

* Integrate applications with APIs, webhooks, and databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB) while implementing secure authentication and access controls.

* Deliver projects on time within agile frameworks (Scrum/Kanban), participating in planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.

* Conduct QA and user acceptance testing to ensure stable, production-ready applications.

* Collaborate with stakeholders across departments, manage expectations, and gather feedback throughout the development lifecycle.

* Own projects end-to-end while working collaboratively when needed.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a Full Stack Developer to join a live GOV-UK service environment in a hands-on role within an agile, autonomous delivery team.

You will contribute across both backend and frontend development, helping refine and evolve a live digital service where user impact and service reliability are paramount.

The role requires strong technical delivery capability, sound engineering judgement and the confidence to engage constructively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

This is not a maintenance-only position, you will play an active role in architectural discussions, continuous improvement and shaping the technical direction of the service.

• Ensure changes are assessed carefully for impact on live users.
• Support demonstrations and provide clear technical updates to clients and stakeholders.

• Working alongside user-centred designers to improve user experience.
• Engaging directly with clients and explaining technical concepts clearly.
