What will you be responsible for?

As Electrical Engineer, you’ll be working within the MEICA  team, providing specialist electrical, instrumentation,  control and automation engineering support across potable water treatment works, wastewater treatment works, pumping stations and network assets. The role involves specifying, designing, reviewing and assuring electrical and ICA installations ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, water industry standards, and company engineering specifications. Coordinating design activities, support project delivery, and ensure safe, reliable, compliant and cost-effective solutions

Your day to day will include:

  • Agreeing electrical and ICA design requirements from the client remit, ensuring it is fully understood, questioning and challenging where necessary, supporting onelectrical and ICA design including outline design, feasibility studies, production and evaluation of concepts; focussed on buildability, efficiency and innovation; enabling cost estimates to be developed
  • Delivering innovative alternative solutions and value engineering, enhancing Kier’s competitive position, producing and checking technical specifications, functional design specifications (FDS), control philosophies, panel schedules, cable calculations and instrumentation schedules
  • Specifying LV electrical equipment including MCCs, motor starters, drives (VSDs/soft starts), transformers, standby generation interfaces and power distribution panels, site visits, surveys and inspections, reporting and advising on SHE issues; attending internal and external meetings on Kier’s behalf; periodically working as an embedded part of tender and construction teams
  • Carrying out cable sizing and cable installation design, including current-carrying capacity, volt drop, fault level calculations, earthing and bonding requirements, specifying field instrumentation: flow, pressure, level, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, ammonia, pH, chlorine, temperature, sludge instruments and general process transmitters
  • Providing ICA input for telemetry, SCADA, PLC, RTU and network communication architectures, developing control system logic, setpoints, alarms and interlocks in collaboration with process engineers and operational teams

  • Chartered Engineer; Membership of appropriate Professional Body (IET or IMechE), bring extensive experience within the water, wastewater or process related industries, including hydraulic design and pumping systems
  • Experience and detailed knowledge of SHE (Safety, Health & Environment) requirements, detailed knowledge of all relevant Engineering Standards

What will you be responsible for?

About the Role

What will you be responsible for?

As Major Projects Mechanical Lead, you’ll be working within the Building Services team, overseeing and coordinating the mechanical design for large, complex construction projects, acting as the central point for technical excellence, team leadership, client liaison, and ensuring sustainable, compliant, and cost-effective design delivery from concept through to construction, bridging client needs with engineering reality. They must manage design teams, integrate different disciplines, ensure quality control, and drive innovation for high-value projects

Your day to day will include:

  • Taking full responsibility and leading on the management of all works delivered through the Mechanical team, managing all aspects of building services engineering, working together with the Major Projects Electrical Lead coordinating solutions for all allocated works, which include all major projects new builds
  • Effectively managing team utilisation levels, identifying and implementing necessary steps, balancing team capabilities and resource levels with available workload, setting, monitoring and maintaining standards for quality of product delivery, aligning all aspects of delivery to standard industry practices, overseeing of designs and advice including feasibility, multi stage designs, and condition reports, liaising with other teams within Kier both within own discipline and other disciplines over all matters requiring coordination to achieve effective delivery
  • Maintaining programme of CPD events to retain up to date competence / capability of the team, championing effective and regular communication to management on all matters affecting output, progress, cost and risks, playing an active part in business development, including production of fees and quality responses supporting bid submissions, preparation of presentation materials, attendance at interviews and client meetings
  • Providing high level technical advice in mechanical building services engineering, participating in project design meetings, establishing solutions, agreeing concepts, working closely with colleagues and other design team members
  • Ensuring delivery of co-ordinated design solutions to the end of projects, providing budget costs and pre-tender estimates as required

The HPC Commissioning Team is growing as part of its preparation to commission the first nuclear power station to be built in a generation at Hinkley Point C (HPC).  You will be part of an expanding team and contribute their knowledge and skills to be an important part of one of the nation’s key infrastructure projects.

Who you are…

The Commissioning Engineer’s role will evolve during the lifecycle of the project and combine technical knowledge with project delivery skills. At the early stages you will contribute to detailed planning and preparation. Following this, you will execute commissioning tests as part of a team, analyse the results to justify the readiness of the HPC units to safely enter commercial operation and handover the system to operation team.

The Planning Discipline of Project Controls, under the direction and leadership of the Commissioning Planning Manager, to be responsible for the management of the Level 2/4 (client) Integrated Work Schedule (IWS) in adherence with HPC processes.  This will include managing the alignment of Level 3 (contract) schedules, and provision of time-related data and analysis.  To support the IPC Planning Manager in leading central Planning activities for the Project and in developing Planning standards, policies and strategies.  To support EDF Energy in making informed decisions to support the efficient and timely delivery of work scope. The jobholder will be responsible for Project data within their area of work and will have authority to make decisions relating to the maintenance of the data.  The jobholder’s line manager will be accountable for the data and material decisions will be referred upwards accordingly.

What you will be doing…

The Construction Delivery Lead takes responsibility for activities in the field relating to the construction of a designated section of the works and its on site facilitation.  Managing and supporting a team of Construction Delivery Managers. To provide day to day on management of site activities, providing direction and monitoring of activities on the site, and providing and validating input into planning the site and the works in a way to most safely and efficiently deliver the project.

  • Provide support to the Construction Delivery Managers by recommending temporary measures to mitigate against safety and/or quality concerns. Follow up by taking appropriate and proportionate action (e.g. issue communications, call meetings) to avoid the cessation of works. This includes, but is not limited to, review of documents, assurance audits, etc.
  • Drive works on site and ensure contractor performance is in line with the agreed programme. Escalate concerns to the Senior Construction Delivery Manager and provide solutions to recover/mitigate, following dialogue with the contractor.
  • Proactively communicate/co-ordinate with site functions (H&S, quality, surveillance, commercial, project controls, logistics) and Construction Delivery Managers to maintain good communication links, and ensure activity is well and timely reported. This will also include regular attendance at pre-start briefings and supporting the delivery of key messages to the contractor’s organisation.
  • Organise and conduct PLOD/PLOW meetings with the contractor, ensuring outputs are recorded and issued to the Senior Construction Delivery Manager.
  • Undertake and record safety and/or assurance inspections that support the project HSPI’s.
  • Ensure clear, two-way communication with the Senior Construction Delivery Manager so that all activities and issues are directed appropriately.
  • Work closely with the contract PM’s to provide support and guidance for responses to contractual correspondence.

We deliver design and development, application engineering, prototype manufacture, repair and consultancy at any stage in the life-cycle of a system or product. We design, manufacture and supply a range of products for the needs of the world-wide railway signalling, telecommunications and industrial control system industry. We are now recruiting for a Firmware/Software Engineer to join our team in Stockport. Reporting to the Lead Software Engineer, your role will be to design and implement new and innovative solutions for signalling and train control systems and products in the field of Railway Engineering. There will also be involvement in problem resolution of new and legacy equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write firmware for embedded systems using the C language.
  • Write unit-test software, and other software to support development and testing.
  • Contribute ideas to the design of systems, software and firmware.
  • Participate in code reviews of their own work and that of colleagues.

The opportunity:

  • Facilitating practical problem solving activities, determining root causes and the effective implementation of robust corrective actions using the relevant quality tools
  • Carrying out of process audits, issuing non-conformances and facilitating root cause and corrective actions
  • Frontline provision of non-conformance management supporting the manufacturing functions, including the administration of non-conformities and containment activities
  • Collation and analysis of non-conformance data through the business tool, Google NLP, highlighting any adverse trends and risks to the business and highlighting opportunities for improvement.
