Department Overview
Data Management is a team at Dunelm who are charged with unlocking the value of data and ensuring Dunelm manages data risks effectively. Our collective Data Vision is: “To enable better decisions by putting the right information in the right hands, at the right time; helping our business to thrive and become our Customers’ 1st choice for home.”
Covering all aspect of good data management, we work closely with colleagues across Dunelm to; define data policies, optimise processes, ensure data is of high-quality and available to the right people at the right time.
We have exciting plans with the implementation of a new PIM, re-platforming of our data estate and a new data governance framework (to name a few). It’s a great time to join our team.
What you’ll be doing
The Data Management team provides the strategic direction and operational oversight required for us to leverage our data across our customers, colleagues, suppliers and products. As the business’s data management expert, you will set the direction for data management across Dunelm, and be instrumental in driving a step change in how data is viewed and used across the business.
What you’ll do:
Develop and improve the organisation’s understanding of data, including at Executive team level. Act as a trusted consultant to help business leaders understand their roles as data owners, and mitigate risks related to data
Own, maintain and embed the Data Management Strategy and model for the business, aligned with the wider business strategy
Embed data ownership and stewardship at Dunelm, working with data owners and key stakeholders to ensure data is used appropriately, safely and compliantly
Build our capability in Data Quality, including establishing the right frameworks, tooling and processes to assess and improve data quality, and educating the business on its importance
In partnership with Technology, oversee the development and deployment of tools and processes to help the business capture, document, manage and surface meta data more effectively
Inform strategy and define best practices, governance, ownership and accountability for master data management solutions
Lead appropriate forums to establish, monitor, and develop a data governance framework, including roles, responsibilities and priorities. Report to the Executive team regarding data risk management and regulatory compliance where required
Develop and manage a programme to routinely analyse data to meet regulatory reporting requirements, as well as ensuring historic and new data changes are made correctly and are fit for purpose
Promote the use of data as a strategic asset
Partner with Business, Tech and Product teams to ensure that our solutions are designed and managed in accordance with the organization’s data principles and guidelines
Develop, coach and lead a team of 5 Data Management professionals
As a leader within the broader Insight & Analytics team (c.45 colleagues) you’ll take a proactive role in developing the team, culture and ways of working, making connections and encouraging collaboration across the broader team, as well as with the wider Customer organisation.
What we’ll look for in you
Leadership
Experience building data management capabilities and leading business transformation
Previous ownership of data management processes, including governance, products, quality, etc.
Experience building and leading teams
Strategic and independent thinker, able to develop long-term vision, translate to roadmaps and deliver and communicate recommendations
Proven ability to manage competing priorities in a complex business environment and prioritise effectively to maximise business value
Communication
Exceptional influencing and persuading skills
Passionate enthusiast for power of data and role in transforming business
Able to communicate effectively and with impact with non-technical leaders, credible at the most senior levels of the organisation
Technical skills
Deep understanding of relevant legislative frameworks (e.g. GDPR, PECR, DPA)
Comprehensive understanding of the data technology ecosystem (incl. data platforms, quality tools, databases, etc.)
Abreast of key technical developments and their implications, including public cloud, AI/ ML, etc
Strong governance skills, including data governance process ownership.
