Backend/Infrastructure Engineer - 6-Month Contract (Inside IR35)
Start Date: 1st December 2025
Location: Fully Remote
Day Rate: 350 per day
Clearance: BPSS required
Experience: Previous NHS or Government experience essential
We’re seeking a mid-to-senior level Backend/Infrastructure Engineer to join a 6-month engagement focused on maintaining and upgrading a Java/Oracle-based system. You’ll work closely with existing developers to understand the system and business processes, while sharing your expertise in modern cloud-based development practices.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and enhance a Java monolithic application with an Oracle PL/SQL database.
Pair with current developers to transfer knowledge and improve processes.
Contribute to modernisation efforts by applying TDD, Agile, and CI/CD principles.
Provide 3rd line support, with a proactive approach to streamlining and automating support tasks.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Strong backend development experience, ideally with SQL knowledge.
Passion for databases and data-driven problem-solving.
Comfortable working with legacy Oracle PL/SQL code and improving it.
Skilled in Test-Driven Development and collaborative Agile environments.
Familiarity with Python or willingness to learn.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
