Description
Fully remote UK - Engineering Manager
Role Overview:
Primary focus: Achieving results through effective leadership

Drive engineering excellence: secure, performant, and reliable solutions
Team is considered the “product”; emphasis on people management
Core Responsibilities:
Line manage and mentor engineers
Support skill and career growth of team members
Author project plans and run agile processes
Guide technical contributions and product architecture
Maintain empathy by staying engaged in engineering tasks
Hire and interview global talent; train team for interviews
Foster psychological safety and provide regular feedback
Draft goals and KPIs; improve product quality, security, and performance
Collaborate cross-departmentally and with the CTO/product team
Skills & Experience Required:
Proven leadership experience with current technical involvement
Strong knowledge of at least one core technology (Ruby, Python, C/C++/Rust)
Understanding of software architecture and development lifecycle
Excellent communication, team-building, mentoring, and conflict resolution skills
Organizational and flexible thinking skills
Alignment with company values
Key Relationships:
Reports to CTO
Works closely with executive team, leadership team, engineering, and product stakeholders
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: Up to £100,000/year
Holidays: 25 days + bank holidays
Remote Work: Fully remote; flexible hours (core hours 10am–5pm); must work within ±2 hours of UK time

Training: £2,000/year training budget + reading/training days

All of our employees are all over the UK and we use the plethora of online tools (and the Google suite) to manage our day and comms. *Flexible working* Although we have core hours, we try to be as flexible as possible with other responsibilities you may have, such as the school run. If you need to be away from your computer at certain times each day please let us know and we will plan around it. If you need to be away as something comes up, please just give us as much notice as possible. There’s a Slack channel called #info-in-out; if you’re going to be away from your desk please let us know in this channel AND a rough eta for your return, so we’re not chasing you unnecessarily. *Please chat nonsense* We have no kitchen or water cooler to gather around and chat about our weekend, hobbies or personal lives; so please feel free to chat about whatever you like in Slack or while pairing. You’re not going to be criticised for talking with the team a healthy amount (which is quite a lot), in fact, it’s crucial to our culture; otherwise it will become a silent, sterile place to work, which is not what we want. *Quarterly Meetups* These will be both for team building and fun, and for whiteboarding and other planning. We’ll give plenty of notice beforehand and, since your home is your primary place of work, we will pay for any travel or accommodation. *Share options* We have set aside 10% of the company as share options to be divided amongst our employees. The exact number of shares, and their percentage value of the total company will be set during your interview.
