As an Operations Engineering Director in our Mission Control organization, you will be essential in providing enterprise services to ensure high levels of product availability for the customers and partners of American Express. This role is critical in delivery of all Mission Control functions to service the full stack of Amex enterprise solutions. Key responsibilities may include:
How will you make an impact in this role?
Directing a team of engineers encouraging resolution of issues while minimizing escalations required and ensuring timely communications.
Maintain/ build strong, proactive relationships with our Amex Business and Technology partners.
Evolve Mission Control capabilities, identifying automation, self-healing opportunities.
Implement self-healing and automation solutions enabling efficient delivery of Mission Control services.
Partner with Mission Control technology onboarding to acquire knowledge and ensure appropriate knowledge transfer occurs with the Mission Control Operations Engineers.
Minimum Qualifications
University Degree or equivalent experience in computer science, computer science engineering, or related field. Significant years of successful engineering and deployment of enterprise-grade technology assets sophisticated product environment.
Prior relevant Technology and business/industry work experience including architecture design and deployment, systems life cycle management and infrastructure planning and operations.
Leadership experience in leading multiple, large, multi-functional teams or projects.
Demonstrated ability to maintain/ develop strong working relationships and ongoing partnerships.
Understand End to End event flow, upstream and downstream dependencies.
Hands-on coding experience with different technology products or programming languages (e.g. JavaScript, ES6, React, node.js, Typescript, Webpack, etc.)
Ability to setup and configure observability solutions (APM tools, auto alerting, incident routing)
Experience working with monitoring tools - application performance monitoring, AIOps or an equivalent tool to improve overall efficiency.
Solid understanding of ITIL (Event, Incident, Release, Problem and Knowledge Management) is critical to success.
Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
Soft skills – analytical thinking, curiosity, continuous learning and improvement attitude
Preferred Qualifications
In-depth knowledge of the Amex technology stack.
Experience developing roadmaps and staffing forecasts.
Experience leading knowledge transfer, training and job shadowing activities.
DevOps knowledge for highly available IT infrastructure
Demonstrated success with automation development.
Familiar with Agile or other rapid application development methods.
Experience with continuous integration/deployment in an Agile Framework covering the aspect of design development and testing (SDLC)
Hands-on expertise with application design, software development and automated testing.
Knowledge of relevant business domain (such as banking and payments technologies)
