The Principal Delivery Lead is a leadership/delivery practitioner role. You will lead by example in a hands-on capacity, facilitate and coach in delivery capabilities at many levels and ensure high-quality delivery outcomes within a Focus Area or Domain. To do this you will work with one or more multi-disciplined delivery teams as well as Leadership to coordinate, communicate and create transparency.
The Principal Delivery Lead is key to evolving our ways of working and should be an experienced practitioner in both waterfall and agile techniques to drive continuous change across the business, with a strong focus on achieving business agility. While there may be constraints working with suppliers and fixed price contracts, the direction of travel is to introduce further agility in both ways of working and culture. You will be responsible for this as well as finding ways to work alongside agile teams in an enterprise environment. To do this you will need to form new and develop existing ideas from within the business as well as your network from outside of the business.
Being an active coach and mentor is going to be a vital skill for the Principal Delivery Lead to support our colleagues’ development, wellbeing, breaking down silos and influencing.
This role is in the Enterprise domain working with several delivery teams. The domain works very closely with the wider tech teams, third parties & business colleagues within Finance, People Services as well as a vast array of SAP business users.
Experience working in a business domain of this nature, with SAP is essential.
This is a multifaceted role, where you will also play a key part in ensuring our strategy and roadmaps are value focussed and aligned to business objectives, drive quality through your teams and be able to challenge solutions to ensure we’re creatively thinking about our approach, in a budget conscious way.
What we’ll look for in you
Leadership
You’ll be a self-aware leader who can communicate at all levels of the business to influence, empower and be a thought leader. You’ll work closely with the Head of Enterprise, other Principal Delivery Leads, Delivery Leads, Product chapter, Engineering chapter and Quality chapter to support, lead and implement project and initiative outcomes for the business, turning strategy into action. You will own the delivery capability within your focus area, working with the Agile Delivery Leads in your team to find improvements and work towards having a high-performing delivery capability.
You’ll be visible, lead by example and create a community of empowerment and trust. Empowering your team and leading through others will be key to your success.
Well respected as a Servant/Leader of teams who can act as a leader as well as a supportive team member. You will have excellent communication skills, enabling you to collaboratively work across technical, leadership and business teams. Delivery practitioners will require a growth mindset, with the ability to identify opportunities for improvement and suggest new ways of working and spearhead their adoption.
You will foster self-organisation, enabling the team to make decisions and remove decision-making barriers whenever possible, whilst being an excellent facilitator of discussion.
Delivery
You will be comfortable taking ownership of the end-to-end deliverables in your domain. You will be passionate about delivering high-quality outcomes with a focus on value for our customers. You will utilise your experience as a seasoned Delivery person to implement methodologies best suited to complex business opportunities at all levels. You will have an approach of small incremental improvements over big bang.
You’ll use data and insights along with an experiment-based mindset to try new ideas and encourage an environment that welcomes change over the existing process. You’ll have a focus on creating optimised flow and continual experimentation.
As an excellent communicator, you’ll be able to create transparency, trust and communicate updates on outcomes at all levels of the business.
A networked Leader, sought out across the business for your skills in coaching and collaboration, especially with agile techniques. You’ll be able to flex between different stances to achieve the best from the stakeholders and teams.
You will collaborate with Business Stakeholders and teams in your area to ensure that you are a close team working together with high levels of communication. You will facilitate and enable value driven decision making and prioritisation, whilst maintaining a close relationship to ensure that you are all aware of the budgets, value and when we will deliver.
Relationship Management
You will operate across the business, building relationships to create a strong network across technology leadership and business areas, coaching and collaborating to realize opportunities for ways of working improvements.
Working with the Delivery chapter to create a strong community and provide opportunities for people to become our future leaders.
You’ll build up a lasting mutual relationship with 3rd parties where you’ll be able to challenge and develop ways of working to ensure that Dunelm and the 3rd parties are operating in a harmonious partnership.
Essential Experience:
• Demonstrable experience in Delivery within an Enterprise and SAP setting • Delivered at a team and organisational level • Experience in using Scrum and Kanban • Bi-model delivery (Agile, Waterfall). Able to use the best of both on the day • Organisational change with a focus on increasing business agility • Active coaching of people and teams – a coaching mindset • Able to lead from the front and through others
Desirable Experience:
• Time with organisations of 10 or more teams • Leading a community • Experience in Retail • Mentoring • People management • S/4 HANA experience
