Their engineering function is scaling significantly, and they are investing heavily in improving quality, automation, resilience, and the overall developer experience. As part of this growth, they are seeking a Director or VP of Test to lead the Test Engineering organisation within their UK operation.The Role:This leadership role involves owning the quality strategy for a large, distributed payments platform. You will guide multiple teams responsible for functional testing, automation, non-functional quality, and integration validation, ensuring that engineering teams ship reliable, scalable, and secure software at pace.
The ideal candidate will combine hands-on technical capability with strong people leadership and a track record of modernising test practices in complex environments.Key Responsibilities:* Define and execute a long-term vision for Test Engineering, covering automation, performance, security, and quality governance
* Lead and mentor managers and senior engineers across Test, Quality, and integration support teams, creating a high-performance culture
* Introduce and evolve modern automation practices, including BDD, API-centric testing, and deep integration with CI/CD pipelines
* Champion shift-left engineering by embedding service virtualisation, static analysis, and early-stage non-functional testing into the delivery lifecycle
* Develop test frameworks and SDET capability that can scale across multiple teams and products
* Build strong partnerships with engineering, architecture, DevOps, and product leadership to drive engineering excellence
* Guide testing strategies across public cloud environments and provide oversight of related operational considerations
* Oversee certification, compliance, and integration quality with external partners and payment ecosystems
* Provide senior leadership teams with clear insights, KPIs, and progress updates through steering groups and review forumsEssential Criteria:* Significant experience leading Test or Quality Engineering at senior leadership level in a complex product or platform environment
* Modern automation expertise, ideally including BDD, API testing, and cloud-native quality tooling
* Strong understanding of performance, security, and scalability testing approaches using contemporary tools and techniques
* Proven ability to build, scale, and mentor Test Engineering and SDET teams
* Background working with microservices, distributed systems, and multi-cloud platforms
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence engineering leadership and executive stakeholders
