What you will be doing…

The Construction Delivery Lead takes responsibility for activities in the field relating to the construction of a designated section of the works and its on site facilitation.  Managing and supporting a team of Construction Delivery Managers. To provide day to day on management of site activities, providing direction and monitoring of activities on the site, and providing and validating input into planning the site and the works in a way to most safely and efficiently deliver the project.

  • Provide support to the Construction Delivery Managers by recommending temporary measures to mitigate against safety and/or quality concerns. Follow up by taking appropriate and proportionate action (e.g. issue communications, call meetings) to avoid the cessation of works. This includes, but is not limited to, review of documents, assurance audits, etc.
  • Drive works on site and ensure contractor performance is in line with the agreed programme. Escalate concerns to the Senior Construction Delivery Manager and provide solutions to recover/mitigate, following dialogue with the contractor.
  • Proactively communicate/co-ordinate with site functions (H&S, quality, surveillance, commercial, project controls, logistics) and Construction Delivery Managers to maintain good communication links, and ensure activity is well and timely reported. This will also include regular attendance at pre-start briefings and supporting the delivery of key messages to the contractor’s organisation.
  • Organise and conduct PLOD/PLOW meetings with the contractor, ensuring outputs are recorded and issued to the Senior Construction Delivery Manager.
  • Undertake and record safety and/or assurance inspections that support the project HSPI’s.
  • Ensure clear, two-way communication with the Senior Construction Delivery Manager so that all activities and issues are directed appropriately.
  • Work closely with the contract PM’s to provide support and guidance for responses to contractual correspondence.

Who you are…

  • Ability to contribute to the management of a high performing team that continuously outperforms expectations and objectives
  • Experience of construction sequencing, recovery plans and resource allocation
  • Good understanding of the post holder’s obligations under CDM Regulations

Mechanical Design Engineer: The role

Reporting to the R&D Manager, your primary role will be to work within the engineering team on existing and new R&D projects.

Scope:

As the Principal Design Engineer & Assembly Team Lead you will be working on exciting and challenging projects from conception through to production. You will have the opportunity to experience all aspects of a full medical device design role working alongside Customers, Sales and Marketing, Project Management, Quality, and Manufacturing departments.

As the Principal Design Engineer & Assembly Team Lead you will be an integral member of the R&D Leadership Team and accountable for leading an Engineering team within Industrialisation, focussed on ensuring that projects are robustly developed in line with the specific goals of the relevant phase from Research to on Market and scaling.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To manage multiple projects within the department from concept to production ensuring projects are delivered on time and to budget.
  • To provide leadership, set standards, and provide coaching for a team of Design Engineers.
  • Demonstrate excellence in Design Engineering skills.
  • Responsible for the compilation and accuracy of Design History files when required.
  • To plan and co-ordinate the activities of the design group to ensure compliance to procedures and regulations as required by Owen Mumford.
  • To develop processes and procedures to support and improve design practices.
  • To be responsible for producing effective new product designs. To review the output of Design Engineers ensuring work is completed with the required level of rigor and to the timescales required by the project.
  • To regularly review performance and development of reports in line with 1:2:1 process.
  • To assist in the compilation of quotations to support Business Development, Sales and Marketing and Operational projects.
  • To compile reports on R&D costs to complete, for any work stream in R&D.
  • Develop intellectual property.
  • Approve design reports and quality documentation to Owen Mumford’s quality standards.
  • To produce all necessary detailed CAD, engineering drawings, reports and plans for the above to the relevant applicable standards.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experience within Medical Device or similar regulated industry. E.g. ISO 13485, FDA 820.30.
  • Highly computer literate eg Excel/Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience in using SolidWorks (or similar) CAD system.
  • Ability to produce technical reports
  • Experience of quality management systems
  • Highly experienced in some or all of the following areas: Mechanical design, Plastics, Injection moulding, DFMEA, UFMEA, Prototyping techniques, tooling, concept generation, taking products from concept to production, project planning and management, FEA, Human Factors engineering.

The Role
